Steve's heart problem journey

Below was written in Sept and October last year.

PRAYERS FOR STEVE
5th October. Steve is feeling okay today. He is still hungry because the NGT tube and tracheostomy tube are still there. Hoping for the best that it will be removed early next week and he can start eating proper food.

3rd October, prep for colonoscopy. No NGT food given to Steve. Needless to say he is desperate for food but I can’t give him any. 4th October, colonoscopy is scheduled at 2 PM. A 2d echo was done at noon then the colonoscopy. During the doctors round, we were advised that there were ulcers on several parts of Steve’s colon. They found a blood clot in Steve’s heart. They could not administer the blood thinners immediately as this may cause bleeding in the colon. In the meantime he needs the blood thinners for the blood clot. The tracheostomy tube remains for now. He got NGT food later in the afternoon.
Our father who art in Heaven, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, please heal Steve fully and completely

2nd October, the tracheostomy tube may not be removed this week. It is just dragging on. Please Lord God, heal Steve fully and completely.

1st October 2019. The tracheostomy tube has yet to be removed. There is a lot of secretion in his chest and throat. They want it to go out before they will remove the tube. We were told that the tube may be removed on 2nd October. It is frustrating but we have to trust that this is for Steve’s own good in the end. Lord God, please heal Steve fully and completely.

30th September. They put a cap on his trache tube so he is breathing through his nose. There is still a breathing apparatus attached through the nose. They said they will decannulate on 1st October. The speech and swallowing technicians also came but they think the food may be going to his lungs so he can’t eat yet. Steve is still feeling hungry and has been asking for fresh juice.

29th September. We are praying that the breathing tube will be removed sooner rather than later. Steve smelt a hand sanitizer with Grapejuice fragrance and he wanted to eat it and he doesn’t like fruit much. That’s how hungry he feels.

28th September. Steve is still in ICU but the doctor said he was getting better. He is slowly going toward the right direction. The inner cannula of the breathing tube was changed but it did not improve the speech. We could not hear him speak yet. He is still frustrated because he could not eat food. He is trying to be in good spirits at the end of the day when we were about to leave. I really hope they will remove the breathing tube tomorrow.

27th September. The doctors are happy with Steve’s progress so far. On 28th September they will change the inner cannula of the breathing tube. This will make him breathe more on his own and may also help with speech. The only thing that Steve wants right now though is food. He is getting fed via a nasogastric tube. But he is desperate to have the sensation of eating and getting full. However, the medical staff doesn’t want the food to go in the wrong way, like his lungs which can cause infection. Then that will delay his progress more. Unfortunately, Steve is motivated at the moment with the thought of food. May God give him more strength. It is still an uphill battle.

26th September. I called the hospital at 3ish in the morning, the nurse said that he was sleeping. He had been sleeping on and off. He needs to sleep so he can regain his strength. Praying that he will get stronger and stronger and his breathing will be 100% on his own so they can remove the breathing tube. Then his voice will come back. He could not write or type on the IPAD as his arms and hands are still very weak. He must be frustrated in trying to communicate to us but we could not lip read well.

25th September. He was doing well today, but later when they were doing the dialysis, he was shivering badly. We got so scared, we trust the medical staff to know what they are doing , but anything can go wrong and may have gone wrong. Although they assured us, but we are still not relieved.
Please continue to pray for him.

24 September, morning when we arrived at hospital, we were greeted with the wonderful sight of Steve being responsive.
He was trying to communicate but I could not understand most as he is speaking too fast. He said he lost his voice and we told him it is due to the tracheostomy. He will gain it back soon. He wanted his phone. He is still very weak, but we have to take it one moment at a time.
Thank you Lord GOD for all the answered prayers. We still have a long road to battle, but there is hope.

23 September. Waiting for Steve's breathing to be better so the doctors may remove the breathing tube. We are still waiting. Before we left, I believe he was responding to me. This gives me hope. Please Lord God, heal Steve fully. Bring him back to us.

22nd September. Steve is still in ICU and still hooked up to the ventilator. They are monitoring his breathing. The doctor advised us to wait one week because the brain is such a complex matter, no one is sure how the lack of oxygen has affected his brain. His heart is slowly getting better. Please continue to pray.
__________________________
21st September The sedative should be out of his system by now but Steve is not responding as he should. The doctors said that they may be due to the lack of oxygen to his brain when he had the cardiac arrest. Our world is crumbling down on us. Our glue, our rock, the very foundation of our lives here in NZ is suffering more. My heart is breaking. Suzie and I have to be stronger.

20th September, Steve opened his eyes but he is still groggy. To aid with breathing, they did a tracheostomy.
We are still waiting for him to fully wake-up.
________________________
19th September Steve is still in a coma but stable. The medical team are slowly weaning him out of the medicines.
The cardio consultants will have another meeting on 20th September regarding the options that was discussed with us. But this is for the long term solution.
The short term is to wean him out of the medicine. We spoke to the nurse on duty and they are not willing to provide a timeframe on when they will wake Steve up. The nurse said each case is always different. I guess they don't want to mislead us. But the uncertainty is torture.
Please continue to pray for Steve. Please pray that his heart will heal on its own.

18 September around 11 in the morning when we arrived at the hospital, there was another issue with the wires that were put in. We were so scared but the medical staff were able to fix it and Steve was more stable after that. He was stable the rest of the day and with his vital signs showing to be all good. He is still in an induced coma. His heart is very weak, particularly his left ventricle. Doctor Mike discussed with Suz and me on what the cardio doctors think will be options for Steve. We will speak to the doctors again on 19th September on what option they have decided. We are on tenterhooks. Every minute is uncertain. We just need to keep on praying that Steve will make it through all of these.
I am very thankful for all your prayers. Please continue to pray for Steve. His condition is still very critical. We need all the prayers.

17th September at around 10 o'clock, Steve had another attack and arrhythmia. The doctors did an angioplasty to put wires to his heart for the electrical impulses to be in sync.
_______________________
The medical staff tried to wake him up twice but he keeps struggling and trying to remove the ventilation tube so they have to put him back to sleep again. He is sleeping for now (Written 12PM 17 Sept).

Please continue to pray for the fast recovery of Steve Evets Sahneracsam. For those who do not know, Steve had a heart attack on Sunday. He was on induced coma until yesterday. They tried to wake him up yesterday evening but he was not responsive so he was put back to sleep. This morning, the nurse tried to wake him up again and he was responsive this time. Thank you Lord for everyone's prayers. It is still early days but we are hopeful. Please keep on praying for him. I usually dont put up private matters like this, especially concerning another person but we need all your prayers for Steve's fast recovery. I am sorry if I have not said anything before about his situation, but Steve is a very private person, I don't think he wants me to post anything like this. But I am doing this so you can pray for him. I am also sorry if I cant answer any messages after this as the following hours will be more difficult. Suzie and I are trying our best to stay strong. We thank everyone and all the families for all your prayers. Please keep on praying for us (16th September)
