Interlude:after the flood. By Zai

There are times in your life when you feel like you are stuck in a rut then suddenly your life changes in a most unexpected way that all you can do is react, accept the change and adapt. That seems to be what has happened to us in the last few weeks. I am not saying we were in a rut since a few months ago, we did have some life changing events that happened to us. All I am saying is that we were sort of on a routine in life for awhile, then,  everything changed. I know this happens to many people every time, but it is always different when it happens to you. It is amazing how you can adapt to change if you are forced to do so. Compared to others, we have been a little lucky. We have been able to go out of our comfort zone and got to experience something new, something that we never thought we would experience. I can say that these new experiences have been good in general. It is sort of a ride to a whole new world. I am so glad that the three of us did this together. I got to meet ...

After the flood, 10th Feb 2023. By Zai

We were in so much stress on the Friday of 10th February just after I came home from work. There was so much commotion and confusion since Bonnie, who is one of the residents in DOVEDALE, was knocking on people's houses  and telling us that Auckland council has yellow stickered our home and we could not stay there. We were so confused and could not make sense of it. Apparently, someone had called Auckland council and complained about the work being done in the houses after the flood two weeks before. So at 4:30 that day, Auckland council inspected the work and found out that the structure of the houses have been compromised. It has also resulted to a fire hazard scenario. We were in such a state of panic and tried options on where to go that evening. We ended up packing for a night's stay at Beth's house. We slept on the floor of her living room area. The following day was so stressful trying to get temporary accommodation. In the end, we stayed with Loretta Aunty and...

Auckland Flooding 27 Jan 23

Image
I have not experienced a flooding before. I guess there is always time for a first time. It was a shocking experience and almost surreal to see the Strand looking like a lake.  It had been raining whole day long on the 27th. Apparently Auckland received one month's rain in 24 hours. I did not expect the water to rise so much and go inside our home. Steve had been here in this area for 22 years and I had been here for 18 years and it had never happened before. No one thought that the water will rise so soon. We only see these things on TV and now it is happening to us. It was shocking to see the water go in the garage and there was no way of stopping it. All I could do is save as much as I can. But in the end, nothing much can be done. The next day was one of the longest days of our lives. We cleaned from morning to night and had to dispose of a lot of things from our garage. I must admit that there were a lot of things that need to go. But I am very sad about my albums and so...

Till we meet again Mum Antoinette, we love you.

We had an awful news that mum had a stroke and in very serious condition on the early hours of 29thNov. We had to take the plunge and go to India to see mum, for the last time it would seem. We flew on 1st December from Auckland to Malaysia. We had a 12 hour layover at Malaysia then another 5 hours to Mumbai. The flight to Mumbai was delayed for an hour so we only arrive in Naigaon on Friday at around 5 PM. We immediately went to the hospital.mum was in ICU and lucky they allowed all 3 of us to see mum together. It is heartbreaking to see mum in such condition. All we wanted was for her to wake up and say hello to us. But it was not meant to be. Mum stayed with us for 3  days. The 4  of us had shifts to be with mum in the hospital. On the Saturday, she was moved to a private room and we were able to be with her. On the early morning of 6th Dec when Steve and I were getting ready to relieve dad in hospital, we got the call that she had passed away. No more pain mum, no m...
