How to safely care for a person with mild COVID at home

Most of us have become experts at taking precautions to limit our risk of contracting COVID-19, which is fantastic. But what happens if you or a family member starts developing symptoms or receives a positive coronavirus test result? Healthy Food Guide editor Jenny de Montalk investigates how to safely take care of someone with mild COVID-19 disease symptoms at home. Most of us have experienced looking after sick family members when winter colds and flu hit. With kids bringing all sorts home from day care and school, or partners coming home from work feeling miserable, many of us have selflessly nursed multiple patients at home, only to end up with everyone well again, then coming down with the bug ourselves. But, when it comes to the novel coronavirus, we really don’t want to end up having it spre...

The year that's been

It is easy to be lost in the quagmire of life and to forget the little beautiful moments that we experience in life. We must take time to reflect and thank the Almighty for the small things and the big things that has come by. Yes, these couple of years have not been very easy, but maybe there are blessings here and there that we have to praise the Lord for.    We are still living in suspense, if I may say, with Steve still on the verge of being listed back for heart transplant anytime. Aside from this, Auckland and the rest of the country had been in Covid lockdown for the past 3 months now. We are just coming out of it now with the vaccination campaign on a roll. Recently too, I had fears for mama Baby’s health. The stroke she suffered had caused so much tension for the family, not only mentally, spiritually but also financially. This year has been eventful. Zairel arrived in February. Steve had his ICD implant on 17th February. Then Covid-19 is devasting the whole world. New Zealand is in lockdown like the rest of the world. So many people have lost their lives to this virus. The virus is still gripping us and we don't see the end yet.

Below was written in Sept and October last year. PRAYERS FOR STEVE 5th October. Steve is feeling okay today. He is still hungry because the NGT tube and tracheostomy tube are still there. Hoping for the best that it will be removed early next week and he can start eating proper food. __________________________ 3rd October, prep for colonoscopy. No NGT food given to Steve. Needless to say he is desperate for food but I can’t give him any. 4th October, colonoscopy is scheduled at 2 PM. A 2d echo was done at noon then the colonoscopy. During the doctors round, we were advised that there were ulcers on several parts of Steve’s colon. They found a blood clot in Steve’s heart. They could not administer the blood thinners immediately as this may cause bleeding in the colon. In the meantime he needs the blood thinners for the blood clot. The tracheostomy tube remains for now. He got NGT food later in the afternoon. Our father who art in Heaven, Jesus Christ and the Holy Sp...
